Chapter 99: Jiang Ziya Returns to His Country and Enshrines Deities

诗曰： 蒙蒙香霭彩云生，满道讴歌贺太平。北极祥光笼兑地，南来紫气绕金城。 群仙此日皆登果，列圣明朝尽返贞。万古崇呼禋祀远，从今让国永澄清。

The poem says: Mengmeng xiang ai cai yun sheng, man dao ou ge he tai ping. The North Pole's auspicious light lingers over Dui Di, while purple qi from the south coils around Jin Cheng. On this day, all the immortals attain enlightenment; in the coming dynasty, all the sage rulers will return to virtue. For ten thousand generations, reverence and offerings shall be held far away; from now on, yielding the nation ensures eternal clarity.

话说子牙借土遁来至玉虚宫前，不敢擅入。少时，只见白鹤童儿出来，看见姜子牙，忙问曰：“师叔何来？”子牙曰：“烦你通报一声，特来叩谒老师。”童子忙进宫来，至碧游床前启曰：“禀上老爷：姜师叔在宫外求见。”元始天尊曰：“著他进来。”童子出来，传与子牙。子牙进宫，至碧游床前，倒身下拜：“弟子姜尚愿老师圣寿无疆！弟子今日上山，拜见老师，特为请玉符、敕命，将阵亡忠臣孝子，逢劫神仙，早早封其品位，毋令他游魂无依，终日悬望。乞老师大发慈悲，速赐施行。诸神幸甚！弟子幸甚！”元始曰：“我已知道了。你且先回，不日就有符敕至封神台来。你速回去罢。”子牙叩首谢恩而退。子牙离了玉虚宫，回至西岐；次日，入朝参谒武王，备言封神一事，“老师自令人赍来。”不觉光阴迅速，也非止一日，只见那日空中笙簧嘹亮，香烟氤氲，旌幢羽盖，黄巾力士簇拥而来。白鹤童子亲赍符敕降临相府。怎见得，有诗为证： 紫府金符降玉台，旌幢羽盖拂三台。雷瘟火斗分先后，列宿群星次第开。 纠察无私称至德，滋生有自序长才。仙神人鬼从今定，不使朝朝堕草莱。

It is said that Ziya used earth evasion to arrive before Yuxu Palace but dared not enter without permission. After a short while, the White Crane Attendant boy came out and saw Jiang Ziya; he hurriedly asked, "Uncle Master, where have you come from?" Ziya said, "Would you please inform him for me? I have specially come to pay my respects to Master." The attendant boy hurried into the palace and, before Biyou Bed, reported, "Your Lordship: Uncle Master Jiang is requesting an audience outside the palace." Yuanshi Tiensun said, "Let him come in." The attendant boy came out and conveyed the message to Ziya. Ziya entered the palace, approached before Biyou Bed, fell on his knees and kowtowed: "Disciple Jiang Shang wishes Master's holy longevity to be boundless! Disciple has come up the mountain today to pay respects to Master, especially to request jade talismans and imperial decrees. I wish to bestow ranks early upon loyal ministers and filial sons who died in battle, as well as immortals caught in calamities, so that their souls may not wander without support but instead wait no longer. I beg Master to show great compassion and swiftly grant this request for implementation. All the gods would be most grateful! Disciple would be most grateful!" Yuanshi said, "I have already understood. You may return for now; in no time, talismans and decrees will arrive at the God-Enthronement Platform. Go back quickly." Ziya kowtowed in gratitude and withdrew. After leaving Yuxu Palace, Ziya returned to Xi Qi; The next day, he entered court to pay respects to King Wu and fully reported the matter of enthroning gods, saying, "Master will personally send someone with them." Unaware of the passage of time, days quickly passed. On that day, one could see flutes and reed pipes resounding clearly in the air, incense smoke swirling thickly; banners, canopies, feathered parasols, and yellow-clothed attendants crowded together as they arrived. The White Crane Attendant boy personally delivered the talismans and decrees to descend at the Prime Minister's residence. How was this seen? A poem serves as evidence: Zi Fu Jin Fu jiang Yu Tai, jing zhuang yu gai fu san tai. Thunder, plague, fire, and conflict divide in order; constellations and stars open one after another. Vigilance without bias earns the highest virtue; growth from its own source follows a long talent's order. From now on, immortals, gods, humans, and ghosts are firmly established; they will no longer fall day by day into the wilderness.

话说子牙迎接玉符、金敕，供于香案上，望玉虚宫谢恩毕，黄巾力士与白鹤童子别了子牙回昆仑。不表。子牙将符敕亲自赍捧，借土遁往岐山前来。只一阵风早到了封神台。有清福神柏鉴来接子牙。子牙捧符敕进了封神台，将符敕在中供放，传令武吉、南宫适：“立八卦纸旛，镇压方向与干支旗号。”又令二人领三千人马，按五方排列。子牙分付停当，方沐浴更衣，拈香金鼎，酌酒献花，绕台三匝。子牙拜毕诰敕，先命清福神柏鉴在坛下听候。子牙然后开读玉虚宫元始天尊诰敕： “太上无极混元教主元始天尊敕曰：呜呼！仙凡路回，非厚培根行岂能通；神鬼途分，岂谄媚奸邪所觊窃。纵服气炼形于岛屿，未曾斩却三尸，终归五百年后之劫；总抱真守一于玄关，若未超脱阳神，难赴三千瑶池之约。故尔等虽闻至道，未证菩提。有心自修持，贪痴未脱；有身已入圣，嗔怒难除。须至往愆累积，劫运相寻。或托凡躯而尽忠报国；或因嗔怒而自惹灾尤。生死轮回，循环无已；业冤相逐，转报无休。吾甚悯焉！怜尔等身从锋刃，日沉沦于苦海，心虽忠荩，每飘泊而无依。特命姜尚依劫运之轻重，循资品之高下，封尔等为八部正神，分掌各司，按布周天，纠察人间善恶，检举三界功行。祸福自尔等施行，生死从今超脱，有功之日，循序而迁。尔等其恪守弘规，毋肆私妄，自惹愆尤，以贻伊戚，永膺宝籙，常握丝纶。故兹尔敕，尔其钦哉！”

It is said that Ziya received the jade talismans and golden decrees, placed them on an incense table, paid respects to Yuxu Palace in gratitude, then after parting from Ziya, the yellow-clothed attendants and White Crane Attendant boy returned to Kunlun. No further mention is made of this. Ziya personally carried the talismans and decrees, used earth evasion to travel, and arrived before Qishan Mountain. With but a single gust of wind, he had already arrived at the God-Enthroning Platform. The god of clear blessings, Bai Jian, came to meet Ziya. Ziya carried the talismans and decrees into the God-Enthroning platform, placed them in the center for veneration, and issued orders to Wu Ji and Nan Gong Shi: "Erect paper banners of the Eight Trigrams to stabilize directions and the heavenly stems and earthly branches flags." He also ordered the two men to lead three thousand troops, arranged according to the five cardinal directions. After Ziya had everything properly arranged, he then bathed and changed clothes, picked incense from a golden tripod, poured wine to offer flowers, and circled the platform three times. After completing his bow before the decree, Ziya first ordered Qingfu Shen Bai Jian to wait below the altar. Ziya then began to read the decree from Yuanshi Tiensun of Yuxu Palace: "Taishang Wuji Hunyuan Jiaozhu Yuanshi Tiensun decrees: Alas! The path between immortals and mortals is winding; without deep cultivation of roots, how could one possibly pass through? The paths of gods and ghosts diverge; how could flattery or treachery dare to covet them. Even if one cultivates breath and refines the form on an island, without having severed the Three Corpses, ultimately one will still face calamity after five hundred years; Even if one holds to truth and maintains unity at the mystical gate, without transcending and liberating the yang spirit, it will be difficult to attend the appointment of three thousand pools in 瑶池. Therefore, although you have heard the highest Dao, you have not yet realized Bodhi. Though you wish to cultivate yourself, greed and delusion remain unshaken; Though your body has already entered sainthood, anger remains hard to eradicate. It is necessary that past offenses accumulate and calamities follow in succession. Some may take on mortal forms to serve the nation with utmost loyalty; Or, due to anger and resentment, they bring upon themselves calamities and blame. Life and death cycle endlessly in reincarnation; Karmic debts and grudges pursue each other, with retribution continuing without end. I feel deeply compassion for this! I pity you all, whose bodies have perished by blades and who daily sink into the sea of suffering. Though your hearts were loyal and upright, they often drift without support. Therefore, I specially command Jiang Shang to rank you according to the severity of your calamities and the merits of your deeds, enshrine you as Eight Departments' Righteous Gods, each in charge of their respective offices. You shall be distributed throughout the heavens, to supervise human virtue and vice, and examine meritorious conduct across the Three Realms. Misfortune or fortune shall be determined by your own actions; from now on, you will transcend birth and death. On the day of meritorious deeds, you shall ascend in order. You must strictly abide by the great regulations, not act on private whims or reckless desires, lest you invite blame and regret. May you forever embrace the precious scrolls and always hold the silken decrees in your hands. Therefore, this decree is given to you; you must honor it with utmost reverence!"

子牙宣读敕书毕，将符籙供放案桌之上，乃全装甲胄，左手执杏黄旗，右手执打神鞭，站立中央，大呼曰：“柏鉴可将‘封神榜’张挂台下。诸神俱当循序而进，不得搀越取咎。”柏鉴领法旨，将“封神榜”张挂台下。只见诸神俱簇拥前来观看。那榜首就是柏鉴。柏鉴看见，手执引魂旛，忙进坛跪伏坛下，听宣元始封诰。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔柏鉴昔为轩辕黄帝大帅，征伐蚩尤，曾有勋功；不幸殛死北海，捐躯报国，忠荩可嘉！一向沉沦，冤尤可悯。幸遇姜尚封神，守台功茂，特赐宝籙，慰尔忠魂。今敕封尔为三界首领八部三百六十五位清福正神之职。尔其钦哉！”柏鉴在台下，阴风影里，手执百灵旛，望玉敕叩头谢恩毕。只见坛下风云簇拥，香雾盘旋。柏鉴至台外，手执百灵旛伺候指挥。子牙命柏鉴：“引黄天化上台听封。”不一时，只见清福神用旛引黄天化至坛下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔黄天化以青年尽忠报国，下山首建大功，救父尤为孝养；未享荣封，捐躯马革，情实痛焉！援功定赏，当存其厚，特敕封尔为管领三山正神炳灵公之职。尔其钦哉！”黄天化在坛下叩首谢恩，出坛而去。子牙命柏鉴：“引五岳正神上坛受封。”少时，清福神引黄飞虎等齐至台下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔黄飞虎遭暴主之惨恶，致逃亡于他国，流离迁徙，方切骨肉之悲；奋志酧知，突遇阳针之劫，遂罹凶祸，情实可悲！崇黑虎有志济民，时逢劫运；闻聘等三人金兰气重，方图协力同心，忠义志坚，欲效股肱之愿；岂意阳运告终，赍志而殁。尔五人同一孤忠，功有深浅。特钖荣封，以是差等。乃敕封尔黄飞虎为五岳之首，仍加敕一道，执掌幽冥地府一十八重地狱，凡一应生死转化人神仙鬼，俱从东岳勘对，方许施行。特敕封尔为东岳泰山大齐仁圣大帝之职，总管天地人间吉凶祸福。尔其钦哉！毋渝厥典。”黄飞虎在台下先叩首谢恩。子牙方读四敕曰：“特敕封尔崇黑虎为南岳衡山司天昭圣大帝；特敕封尔闻聘为中岳嵩山中天崇圣大帝；特敕封尔崔英为北岳恒山安天玄圣大帝；特敕封尔蒋雄为西岳华山金天愿圣大帝。尔其钦哉！”崇黑虎等俱叩首谢恩毕，同黄飞虎出坛而去。子牙命柏鉴：“引雷部正神上台受封。”只见清福神持引魂旛出坛来引雷部正神。只见闻太师，毕竟他英风锐气，不肯让人，那里肯随柏鉴。子牙在台上看见香风一阵，云气盘旋，率领二十四位正神迳闯至台下，也不跪。子牙执鞭大呼曰：“雷部正神跪听宣读玉虚宫封号！”闻太师方才率众神跪听封号。

After Ziya finished reading the decree, he placed the talismans and scrolls on a table. He then fully donned armor and helmet, held an apricot-yellow flag in his left hand and a god-beating whip in his right, stood at the center, and shouted loudly: "Bai Jian, hang the 'God-Enthroning List' below the platform." "All gods must proceed in order; none shall overstep and invite blame." Bai Jian received the decree and hung the "God-Enthroning List" below the platform. One could see all the gods crowded together to come and watch. The name at the top of the list was Bai Jian. Bai Jian, upon seeing this, held a soul-guiding banner, hurried into the altar, knelt and prostrated himself below it, and listened as Yuanshi's decree of enthronement was proclaimed. Ziya said, "Today I receive the decree of Taishang Yuanshi: You Bai Jian were once a great general under Emperor Huangdi Xuan Yuan, who campaigned against Chiyou and had meritorious service; unfortunately you were executed in the Northern Sea, sacrificing your body to serve the nation—your loyalty and integrity are commendable! You have long been sinking into suffering; your injustice is truly pitiable. Fortunately, you encountered Jiang Shang enthroning gods. For your outstanding service in guarding the platform, I specially grant you a precious scroll to comfort your loyal spirit. Today, by decree, you are appointed as the leader of the Three Realms and head of the Eight Departments' 365 Righteous Gods of Clear Blessings. You must honor this with utmost reverence!" Bai Jian, below the platform amid shadowy winds, held a banner of hundred spirits and kowtowed toward the jade decree to express gratitude. One could see clouds and winds gathering below the altar, while incense mist swirled around. Bai Jian went to outside the platform, holding a banner of hundred spirits to await orders and commands. Ziya ordered Bai Jian: "Lead Huang Tianhua onto the platform for enthronement." In no time, one could see the god of clear blessings using a banner to lead Huang Tianhua to below the altar, where he knelt and listened as the decree was read. Ziya said, "Today I receive the decree from Taishang Yuanshi: You Huang Tianhua, in your youth, served the nation with utmost loyalty. Upon descending the mountain, you first established great merit and especially demonstrated filial piety by rescuing your father; before enjoying honor or enshrinement, you sacrificed yourself in battle—this is indeed heart-wrenching! Reward must be given for meritorious service, and your virtue is especially great. Therefore, by decree you are specially enshrined as the Righteous God of Three Mountains, Lord Bingling, in charge of overseeing them. You must honor this with utmost reverence!" Huang Tianhua kowtowed in thanks below the altar and left after exiting it. Ziya ordered Bai Jian: "Lead the Five Peaks' Righteous Gods onto the altar to receive their enshrinement." After a short while, the god of clear blessings led Huang Feihu and others to arrive below the platform, where they knelt and listened as decrees were read. Ziya said, "Today I receive the decree from Taishaung Yuanshi: You Huang Feihu suffered under a cruel ruler's cruelty and brutality, which forced you to flee to another country. Your wandering and displacement caused deep sorrow for your family; you strove with determination to repay your knowledge, but suddenly encountered calamity from the Yang Zhen, and thus suffered misfortune—this is truly tragic! Chong Heihu had a strong will to help the people but met with calamity at an inauspicious time; Wen Pin and three others, bound by deep brotherhood, planned to work together with unity of purpose. With steadfast loyalty and righteousness, they wished to fulfill the aspiration of being trusted advisors; Who could have foreseen that their yang fortune would end, causing them to die with unfulfilled aspirations. The five of you shared the same lonely loyalty; your merits vary in depth. Therefore, special honors and enshrinements are granted according to these differences. Therefore, by decree you Huang Feihu are enshrined as the head of the Five Peaks. An additional decree is specially issued for you to oversee the eighteen levels of hell in the Underworld. All matters concerning life and death transformations of humans, gods, immortals, and ghosts must be reviewed at Dongyue before any implementation may proceed. You are specially enshrined by decree as the Lord Dongyue Taishan Da Qi Ren Sheng Da Di, in charge of overseeing all matters of fortune and misfortune, good and ill omens across heaven, earth, and humanity. You must honor this with utmost reverence! Do not violate these decrees." Huang Feihu first kowtowed to express gratitude below the platform. Ziya then read four decrees, saying: "You are specially enshrined as Chong Heihu the Lord of Nanyue Hengshan Sitian Zhaosheng Dadi; You Wen Pin are specially enshrined as Zhongyue Songshan Zhongtian Chongsheng Dadi; You Cui Ying is specially enshrined by decree as Beiyue Hengshan Antian Xuansheng Dadi; You Jiang Xiong is specially enshrined by decree the Lord of Xiyue Huashan Jintian Yuansheng Dadi. You must honor this with utmost reverence!" Chong Heihu and the others all kowtowed in gratitude, then left the altar together with Huang Feihu. Ziya ordered Bai Jian: "Lead the Thunder Department's Righteous Gods onto the platform to receive their enshrinements." One could see the god of clear blessings holding a soul-guiding banner exiting the altar to lead the Thunder Department's Righteous God. One could see Wen Taishi; after all, he was bold and spirited, unwilling to yield to others. How would he agree to follow Bai Jian? Ziya, watching from the platform, saw a gust of fragrant wind and swirling clouds. Leading twenty-four Righteous Gods, they directly approached beneath the platform without kneeling. Ziya held his whip and shouted: "Righteous Gods of the Thunder Department, kneel and listen to the announcement of your titles from Yu Xu Gong!" Only then did Wen Taishi lead the gods in kneeling to hear their enshrinements.

子牙曰：今封太上元始敕命：尔闻仲曾入名山，证修大道，虽闻朝元之果，未证至一之谛，登大罗而无缘，位人臣之极品，辅相两朝，竭忠补衮，虽劫运之使然，其贞烈之可悯。今特令尔督率雷部，兴云布雨，万物托以长养，诛逆除奸，善恶由之祸福；特敕封尔为九天应元雷神普化天尊之职，仍率领雷部二十四员催云助雨护法天君，任尔施行。尔其钦哉！

Ziya said: Today, by decree of Tai Shang Yuanshi, you Wen Zhong once entered famous mountains and pursued the great Dao. Although you have tasted the fruit of ascending to the dawn of heaven, you have not yet realized the ultimate truth. Though you reached Da Luo Heaven without merit, you attained the highest rank among ministers, serving two dynasties with utmost loyalty and devotion. Though your fate was shaped by calamity, your steadfast virtue is indeed pitiable. Now you are specially appointed to oversee the Thunder Department, summoning clouds and spreading rain so that all things may grow and thrive. You shall punish rebels and eradicate evildoers, determining fortune or misfortune for the virtuous and wicked alike; You are specially enshrined with the title Jiutian Yingyuan Leishen Puhua Tianzun, and you shall still lead twenty-four Thunder Department officials who summon clouds, assist in rainmaking, and serve as guardians of law. You may carry out your duties at will. You must honor this with the utmost reverence!

话说雷祖率领二十四位天君听封号毕，俱望台上叩首谢恩，出封神台去讫。只见祥光缥缈，紫雾盘旋，电光闪灼，风云簇拥，自是不同。有诗赞之，诗曰： 布雨兴云助太平，滋培万物育群生。从今雷部承天敕，诛恶安良达圣明。

After the Thunder Ancestor led the twenty-four Heavenly Lords in listening to their enshrinements, they all kowtowed toward the platform in gratitude and left the God-Enshrining Platform. One could see auspicious light drifting ethereally, purple mist swirling, flashes of lightning illuminating the sky, and winds and clouds gathering around—truly a scene unlike any other. There is a poem praising this, the poem says: Bu yu xing yun zhu tai ping, zi pei wan wu yu qun sheng. From now on the Thunder Department shall carry out heavenly decrees, punishing evil and protecting the good to achieve sage governance.

雷祖去了。子牙又命柏鉴：“引火部正神上台听封。”不一时，清福神引罗宣等至台下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔罗宣昔在火龙岛曾修无上之真，未跨青鸾之翼，因一念嗔痴，弃七尺为乌有，虽尤尔咎，实乃往愆。特敕封尔为南方三气火德星君正神之职；仍率领火部五位正神，任尔施行，巡察人间善恶。尔其钦哉！

The Thunder Ancestor departed. Ziya then ordered Bai Jian: "Lead the Fire Department's Righteous Gods to ascend the platform and receive their enshrinement." In no time, the god of clear blessings led Luo Xuan and others to the foot of the platform, where they knelt to listen as the decree was read. Ziya said: "Today, by decree of Tai Shang Yuan Shi: You Luo Xuan once cultivated the highest truth on Huolong Island but failed to ride the wings of a green phoenix. Because of one moment of anger and delusion, you abandoned your seven feet (i.e., life) into nothingness. Though this is indeed your fault, it was actually an old transgression from past lives. You are specially enshrined in the position of Nanfang Sanqi Huode Xingjun, a Righteous God; You shall still lead five Righteous Gods from the Fire Department. You may act at your discretion to inspect and supervise human virtue and wickedness on earth. You must honor this with great reverence!

火部五位正神名讳： 尾火虎　朱讳晤　　室火猪　高讳震　 觜火猴　方讳贵　　翼火蛇　王讳蛟　 接火天君　刘讳环”

The names of the five Righteous Gods in the Fire Department are as follows: Weihuo Hu, surname Wu; Shihuo Zhu, surname Zhen; Zuihuo Hou, surname Gui; Yihuo She, surname Jiao; Jiehuo Tianjun, surname Huan.

话说火星率领五位正神叩首谢恩，出台去了。子牙又命柏鉴：“引瘟部正神上台受封。”少时，清福神引吕岳等至台下，跪听宣读敕命。只见惨雾凄凄，阴风习习。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔吕岳潜修岛屿，有成仙了道之机，误听萋菲，动干戈杀戮之惨，自堕恶趣，夫复何戚？特敕封尔为主掌瘟昊天大帝之职；率领瘟部六位正神，凡有时症，任尔施行。尔其钦哉！

After the Fire Star led the five Righteous Gods in kowtowing to express their gratitude, they left the platform. Ziya then ordered Bai Jian: "Lead the Plague Department's Righteous Gods up to the platform for their enshrinement." After a short while, the god of clear blessings brought Lü Yue and others to beneath the platform, where they knelt and listened as the decree was read aloud. One could see bleak mist and sorrowful winds swirling heavily. Ziya said: "Today, by decree of Taishang Yuanshi: You Lü Yue once cultivated in seclusion on an island and had the opportunity to attain immortality. But you wrongly listened to malicious rumors, stirred up war and killing, fell into evil destinies yourself—what more is there to lament? You are specially enshrined to the position of Lord Wuhao Tiandi, Master of Plague; Lead six Righteous Gods from the Plague Department. Whenever there are epidemics or diseases, you may act as you see fit. You must honor this with utmost reverence!

To console your hidden cultivation, you are specially enshrined and appointed to preside over the Golden Palace, sit in command of the Star Office, and hold the foremost position among all constellations across the heavens. You shall be honored as the Supreme Being of the North Pole's Purple Qi, with all 84,000 stars and malevolent spirits under your command. You will forever serve as the Righteous God of Doumu in the Water Palace. You must honor this new decree with reverence, and strive to atone for past transgressions!

After a short while, the God of Clear Blessings used his banner to lead Yin Jiao, Yang Ren and others to beneath the platform. They knelt in silence as they listened to the decree being read aloud. Ziya said: "Today, by decree of Tai Shuang Yuan Shi: You Yin Jiao once were the son of Zhou Wang. In grief for your mother and queen, you offended both father and ruler, nearly suffering an unpredictable calamity; Later, while cultivating on a famous mountain, you defied your teacher and violated the will of Heaven, thus causing disaster as if plowing through virtue. Although it was instigated by Shen Gongbao, it is also due to your own transgressions. You Yang Ren served Zhou Wang with loyalty and direct advice, first suffering the agony of having your eyes gouged out. Later, you returned to the Zhou dynasty, sacrificing yourself for the country, but eventually met an untimely death. This was all due to karmic fate, a hardship that could not be avoided. You Yin Jiao are specially enshrined as the God of Tai Sui, in charge for one year, overseeing the fortune and misfortune of that year. You Yang Ren are enshrined as the Tai Sui God of Jiazi, leading your subordinates and daily Righteous Gods. You shall follow the degrees of the constellations across the sky to inspect human transgressions and past misdeeds on earth. You must diligently perform your duties, forever honoring this new decree with utmost reverence.

Unfortunately, your roots were not deeply established; you listened to malicious instigations, leading you to abandon nine transformations of cultivation and instead suffer the agony of bloodshed. This is a consequence of your own actions; do not blame Heaven for this misfortune. You are specially enshrined as Four Holy Great Marshals, in charge of guarding Lingxiao Bao Dian Hall. Forever honor this decree with reverence and console your souls from the netherworld. Wang Mo Yang Sen Gao Tiqian Li Xingba"

Though your virtue and cultivation surpassed purity, you were still ensnared by illusions of desire. Once fallen into evil destinies, there is no path back to truth. While alive you failed to reach the realm of Da Luo; in death, you shall receive a golden decree and be enshrined. You are specially enshrined as Jinlong Ruyi Zhengyi Longhu Xuantan Zhenjun, a divine being; Lead four Righteous Gods under your command to welcome blessings and capture fugitives. You must honor this with reverence! Zhaobao Tianzun, Xiao Sheng; Nazhen Tianzun, Cao Bao; Zhaochai Shizhe, Chen Jiugong; Lishi Xian Guan, Yao Shaosi"

Ziya said: "Today, by decree of Tai Shen Yuan Shi: You Mo Liqing and others wielded precious treasures passed down in secret to defy the will of Heaven; You took advantage of your brothers' unity, leading to the killing of the innocent. Though your loyalty is commendable, it could not escape karmic fate. You perished together and have long been cast into the abyss of suffering. Now you are specially enshrined in positions as the Four Great Heavenly Kings; You shall assist and support the teachings of the West, establish the elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, protect the country and its people, and hold authority over favorable winds and timely rains. Forever fulfill your duties diligently, and do not disgrace this new decree. Zengchang Tianwang, Mo Liqing: wields a green light treasure sword - in charge of wind. Guangmu Tianwang, Mo Lihong: holds a jade pipa - in charge of regulation. Duowen Tianwang, Mo Lhai: controls the Hunyuan pearl umbrella - in charge of rain. 魔礼青等听罢封号，叩首谢恩，出坛去了。子牙又命柏鉴：“引郑伦等上坛受封。”不一时，清福神用旛引郑伦等至台下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔郑伦弃纣归周，方庆良臣之得主，督粮尽粹，深勤跋涉之劬劳。未膺一命之荣，反罹阳九之厄。尔陈奇阻吊民伐之师，虽违天命；荩忠节于国，实有可嘉。总归劫运，无用深嗟。兹特即尔等腹内之奇，加之位职。敕封尔等镇守西释山门、宣布教化、保护法宝、为哼哈二将之神。尔其恪修厥职，永钦成命。”郑伦与陈奇听罢封号，叩首谢恩，出坛去了。子牙又令柏鉴：“引余化龙父子上坛受封。”不一时，只见清福神用旛引余化龙等至坛下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔余化龙父子，拒守孤城，深切忠贞，一门死难，永堪华衮之封。特赐尔之新纶，当克襄乎上理；乃敕封尔掌人间之时症，主生死之修短，秉阴阳之顺逆，立造化之元神，为主痘碧霞元君之神；率领五方痘神，任尔施行。仍敕封尔元配金氏为卫房圣母元君；同承新命，永修厥职，汝其钦哉！

In no time, Qingfu Shen used a banner to lead Zheng Lun and others to the platform, where they knelt to listen as the decree was read aloud. Ziya said: "Now, by decree of Tai Shang Yuanshi: You Zheng Lun abandoned Chou and returned to Zhou; it is a joyous occasion for a loyal minister to find his rightful master. You supervised grain supplies with utmost integrity, and your tireless efforts in arduous journeys are deeply commendable. Before you could receive any honor of official rank, you were instead subjected to the calamity of Yang Jiu. You Chen Qi obstructed the expedition to pacify and rescue the people, though this went against Heaven's will; your loyalty and integrity for the nation are indeed commendable. Ultimately, it was all due to karmic fate; there is no need for deep lamentation. Therefore, I specially bestow upon you the extraordinary powers within your bodies and assign you positions of duty. You are hereby enshrined to guard the western gate of Shishan, proclaim teachings and education, protect sacred treasures, and serve as the divine generals Heng Ha. You must diligently fulfill your duties and forever honor this decree." After Zheng Lun and Chen Qi heard their titles announced, they knelt deeply to express gratitude and departed from the altar. Ziya then ordered Bai Jian: "Lead Yu Hualong and his father onto the platform for enshrinment." In no time, one could see Qingfu Shen using a banner to lead Yu Hualong and others to the altar platform, where they knelt down to listen as the imperial decree was read out. Ziya said: "Now, by the decree of Tai Shang Yuan Shi: You Yu Hualong and your father, defended a lonely city with steadfast loyalty; an entire family perished in sacrifice, forever worthy of enshrinement as noble officials. You are specially granted this new decree; you must diligently assist in the governance above; Therefore, you are enshrined to oversee human epidemics and plagues, preside over the length of life and death, uphold the harmony or discord of yin and yang, establish the primordial spirit of creation and transformation, as the divine Lady Bi Xia Yuangjun who governs smallpox; lead the five directional gods of smallpox, and you shall carry out your duties accordingly. You are also enshrined to bestow upon your original wife Jin Shi the title of Weifang Shengmu Yuangjun; together receive this new mandate, forever diligently fulfill your duties. You must honor it!

余化龙等听罢封号，叩首谢恩，出坛去了。子牙命柏鉴：“引三仙岛云霄、琼霄、碧霄上台受封。”少时，只见清福神用旛引云霄等至台下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔云霄等，潜修仙岛，虽勤日夜之功；得道天皇，未登大罗彼岸。况狂逞于兄言，借金剪残害生灵，且愤怒于冥数，摆“黄河”擒拿正士，致历代之门徒，劫遭金斗，削三花之元气，后转凡胎，业更造乎多端，无心悔乎彰报。姑从惠典，赐尔荣封。特敕封尔执掌混元金斗，专擅先后之天，凡一应仙、凡、人、圣、诸侯、天子、贵、贱、贤、愚，落地先从金斗转劫，不得越此，为感应随世仙姑正神之位。尔当念此鸾封，克勤尔职！ 云霄娘娘　　琼霄娘娘　　碧霄娘娘

After a short while, one could see Qingfu Shen leading Yunxiao and others with a banner to the platform below, where they knelt and listened as the decree was read. Ziya said: "Now, by the decree oftai Shang Yuan Shi: You Yunxiao and others, secluded yourselves on an immortal island, diligently cultivating day and night; you attained the Dao under Tianhuang but did not reach the shore of Da Luo. Moreover, you acted recklessly upon your brother's words, using the golden scissors to harm living beings. In anger against fate, you wielded "the Yellow River" to capture righteous men, causing generations of disciples to suffer under the golden ladle, their primordial energy of the Three Flowers stripped away, and later they were reborn as ordinary mortals, accumulating numerous karmic offenses without any remorse for their deeds. Out of mercy, I shall bestow honor upon you. You are specially enshrined to hold the Hunyuan Golden Ladle, exclusively overseeing the order of Heaven's succession. All beings—immortals, mortals, humans, sages, feudal lords, emperors, nobles, commoners, wise or foolish individuals—must first pass through the golden ladle upon birth and rebirth; none may bypass it. You shall hold the official title of Divine Immortal Lady Gu Shiyi, who responds to karmic transformations in accordance with the world's order. You must remember this divine decree and diligently fulfill your duties! Niangniang Yunxiao Niangniang Qiongxiao Niangniang Bixiao

三姑听罢封号，叩首谢恩，出坛去了。子牙又命柏鉴：“引申公豹至台下受封。”不一时，只见清福神用百灵旛引申公豹至台下，跪听宣读敕命。子牙曰：“今奉太上元始敕命：尔申公豹身归阐教，反助逆以拒直，既以被擒，又发誓而粉过。身虽塞乎北海，情难释其往愆。姑念清修之苦，少加一命之荣。特敕封尔执掌东海，朝观日出，暮转天河，夏散冬凝，周而复始，为分水将军之职。尔其永钦成命，毋替厥职！”申公豹听罢封号，叩首谢恩，出坛去了。子牙封罢三百六十五位正神已毕，只见众神各去领受执掌，不一时，封神台边凄风尽息，惨雾澄清，红日中天，和风荡漾。子牙下坛传令，命南宫适：“会合朝大小文武官员，至岐山听候发落。”南宫适领命，忙令马上飞递前去。不表。次日，众官跻跻跄跄，齐至坛下伺候。少时，子牙升帐。众官俱进帐参谒毕，子牙传令：“将飞廉、恶来拿来。”飞廉、恶来二人齐曰：“无罪！”子牙笑曰：“你这二贼，惑君乱政，陷害忠良，断送成汤社稷，罪盈恶贯，死有馀辜！今国破君亡，又来献宝偷安，希图仕周，以享厚禄。新天子祇承休命，万国维新，岂容你这不忠不义之贼于世，以贻新政之羞也！”命左右：“推出斩之正法！”二人低头不语。左右推出辕门。不知性命如何，且看下回分解。

After the Three Ladies heard their titles announced, they bowed deeply in gratitude and departed from the platform. Ziya then ordered Bai Jian: "Lead Shen Gongbao to the platform for enshrinement." In no time, one saw Qingfu Shen using the banner of a hundred spirits to lead Shen Gongbao to the platform below, where he knelt and listened as the imperial decree was read. Ziya said: "Now, by the decree of Taishang Yuanshi: You Shen Gongbao, though belonging to the Chan Sect, instead aided the rebels and resisted righteousness. After being captured, you made oaths to cover up your faults. Though your body was sealed in the Northern Sea, it is difficult to absolve past offenses. Out of compassion for your arduous cultivation, I shall bestow a minor honor upon you. You are specially enshrined as the master of the Eastern Sea, to observe the sunrise in the morning and turn the Milky Way at dusk; you shall scatter water in summer and condense it in winter, repeating this cycle endlessly. You shall hold the position of General Fenshui. You must forever honor this decree and never neglect your duties!" After Shen Gongbao heard his title announced, he kowtowed deeply in thanks and left the platform. After Ziya had completed the enshrinement of 365 official deities, one could see all the gods departing to assume their respective duties. In no time, at the site of the Enshrinement Platform, the mournful winds ceased entirely and the gloomy mists cleared away; a crimson sun hung in the sky's center, while gentle breezes rippled through the air. Ziya descended from the platform and issued orders, directing Nan Gongdi: "Gather all civil and military officials of the Chao court to Qishan Mountain to await further instructions." Nan Gongdi accepted the order and immediately dispatched riders on horseback to deliver it promptly. Details are omitted here. The next day, the officials arrived in a bustling crowd and gathered at the platform to await instructions. After a short while, Ziya ascended his tent. After all the officials had entered and paid their respects, Ziya issued an order: "Bring Feilian and Elai here." Feilian and Elai both cried out together: "We are innocent!" Ziya laughed and said: "You two villains, you misled the king and disrupted governance, framed loyal men, and doomed the state of Chengtang. Your crimes are heinous beyond measure; your death is but a just punishment! Now that the state has fallen and the king perished, you dare to present treasures in an attempt to secure a quiet life, hoping for official positions under Zhou and enjoying generous salaries. The new emperor has just received the mandate of Heaven, and all nations are being renewed. How could such a traitorous and unjust villain as you be allowed to exist in this world, bringing disgrace upon the new administration!" Ziya ordered those on his left and right: "Drag them out and execute them according to law!" The two men lowered their heads in silence. Those on the left and right dragged them out through the 辕门 (Yuanmen, a military gate). Whether they would live or die remains to be seen in the next chapter.
